Feb 25 2009 LOST

you momos better start doing your notes. also, i dont know if rk knows this or not, but that girl from Mamma Mia was in House, and she predicted a 30% chance that its raining...
CB Note: Way to mix movie references
RK Note: I didn't see Mamma Mia, but she's also in Big Love.

1:00 - big night people - we get to find out what happened with Locko off the island. i hope it lives up to the expectations and hype!

2:00 - this guy looks familiar. i think hes up to no good! what was his nickname from last blog? i cant remember.

3:00 - cb remembers tho - condolences guy!

4:00 - ummm. so that wasnt before the plane, it was on the island? wtf was he looking in? was he on the plane? in a random hatch? there was like a desk and a gun and island info. we guess they crashed near a dharma or Others station i suppose. weird.
CB Note: I guessed Dharma. I read somewhere that they might be on the second island (the one where Jack/Kate/Sawyer were held). I didn't notice at the time, but when Locke was looking out across the water, you see the island there in the distance. http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage-1469-12.html. That could explain why Lupidus and "a woman" took the boat.
RK Note: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH I think they are SO on the second island, the swinging doors looked a lot like that place where the Others had that hospital type place where Ben was having surgery that time, when they were holding Kate and Sawyer in those cages.
CB Note: True, and it would make sense that there they'd find supplies to help the hurt people!

5:00 - John!!! so he died, and was revived on the island? kind of like healing his leg, only cooler? John is the Messiah of the island.
CB Note: Reincarnation!
RK Note: WEIRD. So weird. But awesome!!!

6:00 - its funny, hes wearing his funeral suit. and there are the boats. already there? weird. how'd they get there?
RK Note: How DID those boats get there?!?!

7:00 - frank and some woman took a boat. what woman? cb guessed sun. shouldn't she have flashed? i really don't buy this random crashing on the island. cb wonders if frank would have flashed too. i responded that he wouldn't have flashed, bc hes not a Lostie. she responded that miles faraday and charlotte all flash. that's a good point. miles and charlotte have a connection to the island though. faraday maybe does, if him being widmore's son is a good nut.
CB Note: I just think that it would be weird for Miles/Faraday/Charlotte to time-flash and not Frank. Even if they have a "past connection" to the island. That's not a reason to flash versus not flashing since none of the Losties have the same "connection." Plus, at the point when Frank is flying over the island, he does have a "past connection" bc he was on the island before! Plus, he could have flashed and appeared on the island in the same location as where they crashed. Obvioulsy not all of them flashed to the same place, since last week we saw Hurley/Kate/Jack but not Sun/Sayid. Also, Locke probably flashed out of the plane as well, and he's in that location, so why not Frank/Sun too?
RK Note: Brilliant analysis, Caryn!!
CB Note: Thanks!! :)

8:00 - cb and i are debating the above entry. she just had kind of a good guess for the plane crashing - frank flashed off and there was no pilot. that could be true, except the plane would still kinda miss the island most likely bc its going so fast, and also thered be a copilot. this is a good guess by her though, i could buy it. but now shes talking about magnetic forces at work causing the crash, but, IT WAS DESMOND NOT DOING THE BUTTON that caused the Losties to crash in the first place. i still dont like this miraculous crash. cb responds that magnetic forces also crashed danielle's boat and desmonds.
CB Note: Ok 1. Frank could have flashed out of the plane, freaking out the co-pilot who was scrambling to save/land the plane (the plane didn't even seem to be broken...maybe he crash landed). 2. There ARE magnetic forces at work on this island. They crashed danielle's boat, desmond's boat, the black rock, etc. Flight 815 crashed due to extreme magnetic forces due to Desmond not pressing the button, but you cant just then discount the magnetic forces themselves! Plus the fact that with the time travel/bright light stuff that's been going on, there's probably a lot of magnetic force at work.

9:00 - she also would like to note that this is why it takes us an hour ad a half to watch the show, bc we have to pause and debate and blog. she also made a hand motion to indicate that the island is "spurting out magnetic forces" every 30 seconds.

10:00 - she said spurt... lol.

11:00 - she actually said frank ran off in the middle of the night, indicating he didnt flash off.
CB Note: See earlier note. It doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't flash since he could have flashed near to the crash!

12:00 - i hope locke tells this girl he's dead and alive again. thatd be funny.

13:00 - "locke, she doesnt know you well enough to believe your crap" - cb

14:00 - GOOD LUCK JOHN!

15:00 - locke's in tunisia. didnt ben come off in tunisia too? is that wear charlotte found that dead animal? whats the deal with... tunisia!!
RK Note: DUH, Tunisia is where they come out when they turn the wheel and flash! They flash into Tunisia! Must be another one of those special spots in the universe. That is also where Charlotte found the polar bear with the Dharma collar. I don't even think this can count as a nut because it was so clear!
CB Note: True, we all knew that Charlotte found the polar bear in Tunisia, no nuts!

16:00 - cb noted half a moment after me that charlotte also had a tunisia past.
CB Note: Half a moment my butt.

17:00 - that camera wasnt there when ben came off. i bet he or widmore put it there. ill go with ben.

18:00 - well, i didnt think it was gonna be random tunisians! (obviously they work for ben or widmore)

19:00 - hey, its the guy from Fringe and The Wire. rk, do you remember that show??? i actually thought his character had just been dropped from Lost. i suppose this means widmore found him...
CB Note: You should know better than to think that Lost would just drop anyone and not refer to them again!

20:00 - nut. cb: "that sounds like widmore". duh. it also sounds like Caleb Nichol.
CB Note: NOT A NUT FOR YOU!!!! You said it was Ben or Widmore (how many times do we have to go over this) AND then you went with Ben! See 17:00. That means RAISIN! You can't change your mind when you see someone you know works for Widmore and expect that to count as a nut.

21:00 - anyway, widmore says "nice to see you again" and john says "do i know you?" and then cb is like "ahhhhh nice to see you again, 1954!" and im like "huh, its 1954? did it say 1954?" bc i was blogging and only listening, and she looks at me like an idiot. widmore is referencing their 1954 island meeting. whoops! cb wanted me to relate this story...
CB Note: Psh you weren't even blogging at that moment.
RK Note: This is pretty awesome.

22:00 - ooh. lovin' this widmore story. he was the leader of hte Others before ben! for 3 decades! so, cb and i just talked it through, though she thought of it slightly earlier than me, if he was 17 in 1954 and not leader then, and then became leader immediately after john left, that means the earliest penny coulda been born off the island is 1984 and she's totes older than that. penny was born on the island!! WHO IS HER MOTHER?!?!?! i wonder if its that girl who we thought was faraday's mother? siblings? or just we were wrong on faraday.
CB Note: Ahem, more than slightly earlier than you =p The only way Penny isn't somehow conceived on the island is if Widmore was the "ruler" from the day he was born! But also, Ben came to the island as a boy in the 70s and the "purge" when they killed all the dharma people happened in Dec 1992 (thanks lostpedia!). So is that when Widmore was kicked out? But that doesn't make sense either cause Penny would remember either a) being on the island or b) her father not being around (should she have grown up off the island). This time stuff is quite confusing!! Another thought...any possibility that the 3 "decades" is misleading...like on island time versus off island time?
RK Note: BRILLIANT time analysis! Penny was totally born on the island!!! And for all we know, she DOES remember it... right? Could Elosie Hawking, aka Ellie in 1954, be PENNY's mom? AND Faraday's? Penny and Faraday, brother and sister?
CB Note: I said the same thing to J when we were discussing it mid-show!!

23:00 - also, if he couldn't have been exiled until the 80s or 90s by ben, that means that widmore was NOT originally behind dharma?!?!?! i thought widmore was always one of the people behind dharma. cb asks if we have a reason to think this. im positive funding for dharma has been linked to widmore. maybe he got involved with dharma after he got kicked off as an attempt to try to get back? that doesnt make sense though, bc dharma was fine until it got killed by ben helping the Others, which is when widmore still would have been leader of the Others. im confused. somebody please help. when did dharma first come to the island.
CB Note: Dharma came to the island in 1970. I swear I could spend all day trying to piece this all together on lostpedia! From what I've been able to summise...the Hanso Foundation is a big backer of Dharma. But I don't think we've had any proof exactly how they related to Widmore Corp. Also of interest, it says that Hanso cut its funding of Dharma in '87, which was 5 years before the purge. So what were they doing in that time??

24:00 - also, this story makes it seem like maybe widmores not a bad guy... it could be ben! who is the real bad guy?!
RK Note: What a wildcard! Maybe they're both bad guys?

25:00 - a war?! what war?! tell usssssssssssssssssssssss. between ben and widmore? or bigger than that???
RK Note: OMG a WAR?!?!

26:00 - Locke seemed to give Wire guy a look when he showed up...
RK Note: Because he remembered him from when Locke was in the hospital and he was an orderly who convinced him to go to Australia!!!

27:00 - i still cant remember. did bentham visit them all and then die? i feel like john said that. is that what we are gonna see now?

28:00 - bingo. looks like it. also, htf did he know sayid was there?
CB Note: Widmore gave him a folder with info on all of their whereabouts, he was having each of them watched.

29:00 - a) i totally dont remember helen. b) wtf more walt? hmm, maybe thats why they had 3 years go by off the island; now walt's the right size!
CB Note: Locke and Helen met at an anger-management support group. They started dating, but the big issue in their relationship was Locke's obsession with his father (he would stalk him). She tried to get him over it. Then his dad faked his death and approached Locke to try to get him to help him with a con. Helen found out and broke up with him. Sometime later, Locke would call a phone sex operator and call her Helen. He even invited her to go to Australia with him.
RK Note: I wonder if Michael could someone also not be dead from the freighter explosion, like Jin! But what does Walt have to do with any of this?
CB Note: Michael being alive would be a big stretch (even tho on Lost, anything is possible) just since he was actually in the room with the explosives when they went off. And he saw Christian, which made it seem like the island was forgiving him and letting him die a hero, since up til that point, he wasn't able to kill himself/be killed.

30:00 - and walt's dreaming about locke! its the future for locke!

31:00 - so, was that just a walt scene for the helluva it, or is walt really gonna be in the show in the future, and he has to go back to? also, Ben is NOT pleased!
RK Note: I'd like to know this as well.
CB Note: Walt was always an important character when he was on. He dreamed things that came true. While it would definitely be interesting to add him back into the mix...I'm not sure they have plans for him outside of this (possibly just a tying up of loose ends for walt? or perhaps he will have to come back to the island.) Also interesting to note, something I read, a little continuity error. When Locke goes to see Walt, Walt calls him John, and Locke never refers to himself as Jeremy Bentham. But in a past ep, Walt goes to visit Hurley and tells him that Jeremy Bentham came to see him.

32:00 - HILARIOUS, hurley thinks locke is dead.
RK Note: Didn't we see a scene like this once before, last season, with Hurley in the mental institution and see's outside at that table on the grounds, and he's talking to John? But we were made to believe he was hallucinating seeing someone dead, the same way he was seeing Charlie?

33:00 - fyi - i did NOT remember this story. however, i did note in 26:00 that locke totally recognized him. so... BILL IT!
CB Note: Bill nothing! I'm auditing you! It was obvious Locke recognized him, even if we couldnt remember why!
Working or posing as a hospital orderly, Abaddon met Locke at the rehabilitation center after his fall from a window caused by Anthony Cooper. While wheeling Locke back to his room, he stopped, and urged Locke to attend a walkabout, something Abaddon claimed to experience that changed his life. He even claimed to have experienced a miracle. Abaddon told Locke that if he did the walkabout that when they met again, he would owe him one.
RK Note: I remembered why! And it's not even a nut if we're just supposed to remember something we ALREADY saw on another scene of the show, so you can't bill anything-- it's only a nut if you PREDICT something that will happen in the future, it's not a nut if you REMEMBER something we already saw!
CB Note: It's not a nut per se, but still props go out to anyone who remembers small things like that - I think! So well done Rachel :)

39:00 - whoa. i cant believe abbadon just got nutted. musta been ben, right? i thought he was gonna be back the way he was involved in this ep, but i guess they just decided to have him back for one and kill him b/c of his role on Fringe.
RK Note: Makes me sad, I liked Abbadon
CB Note: Me too!

43:00 - man, i was gonna write above when locke said he only needed to convince one that he thought he just had to convince jack.

44:00 - hey, this note looks familiar!

45:00 - cb thinks there might be a "jack beard incontinuity"...
CB Note: Um YEA! When he found out Locke died/went to the funeral, he had massive scary Jack beard. But when Locke goes to see him, he's just starting the beard. It shouldn't have been that long from when he saw Jack til he tried to commit suidice. It looked like he did it later that day/the next day!!
RK Note: A lot of time passed BETWEEN Locke dying, and when Jack found OUT he died and went to the funeral, and we know a lot of time passed after that but before they all get together to go back to the island... So even though last night we were seeing them all after they got back to the island, and Locke right before he came back to the real world and then died, a lot of time passed after his death and the Losties returning together to the island-- during that time Jack flew back and forth a lot to Australia trying to crash, became an alcoholic, stopped being a doctor, had the crazy beard, etc.
CB Note: But how is that possible that a lot of time passed. You dont keep a dead guy unburied for a long time...and since he looked that good in his coffin, I doubt there was a lot of time between when he died and when he was found! So how can a lot of time have passed??

48:00 - ooh, such tension. what's gonna happen with john and ben!!!

49:00 - cb doesnt know who to trust - widmore or ben! i think we'll just have to wait til the end of the last season to find out!

50:00 - cb is all skeptical over this "why do they think john is so important stuff". i don't really understand why. ill let her explain in a note.
CB Note: Ok. So, I was just saying that they're all saying to John how important he is to the island, to the future of all the people etc etc etc, treating him like Jesus! I'm saying that I don't know if I buy the idea that they think he's so important because he went back in time and told them he was. That's all! But how do they all KNOW he's so important and why do they never say why?!
RK Note: Great question!

51:00 - jack just booked a ticket. must be his first. i dont think locke dies now. he doesnt die til later, not til jack spends a bit of time flying around like a loonytoon. that explains the beard situation.
RK Note: Clearly Jack flies back and forth a lot like a loonytoon AFTER Locke is already dead.

52:00 - ben's reaction to jin being alive is pretty strong. and shocked. he just thought jin was dead bc sayid told him? i dunno. this seems significant.
CB Note: It's like the in he needs to help convince? He was super shocked.

53:00 - oh...quadruple.. em..gee. my first reaction was that ben wanted to get back, or help john, but then when he killed john, he thought that eloise would expose him for being the true bad guy, which it certainly seems he is now. seeing as how he just killed john. cb immediately said something that's a better idea i think - ben himself wants to get back, and was using john to find a way, and he must think eloise is the way back. this seems like a good guess to me. im trying to remember her reaction when she met and talked to ben a few eps ago - it didn't seem hostile - they seemed like pals almost...
CB Note: So...either Ben already knew/knew of Eloise. Or was trying to find out from Locke how to get back. Maybe he just wanted to find out if Widmore knew how to get back just as he did? I think maybe he was already in with Eloise and maybe she told him that Locke had to die in order for it to work (something to do with Christian being dead in the original - and he after all did say Locke'd have to die)? So maybe he was just trying to get some details out of him and ensuring that he actually did die?
RK Note: Either some Ben knows Locke has to die TO get them back to the island and that he'll be reborn there, OR he wants to be the leader and is threatened by Locke being alive. But NEITHER makes sense as to why he killed him, because he was about to kill HIMSELF anyway, so why did Ben bother talking him out of suicide and then murdering him? How pointless, he could have just let Locke kill himself!

54:00 - cb's explanation is that ben views it as a way to get sun to go back - which of course is exactly what he did! but that would indicate ben really does want them all to come back. why? i don't get it. he def did in the last few eps also. but obvi just without john? ben killing john definitely jives with "ben wanting to be leader" widmore story.

55:00 - jack beard discrepancy now unexplained. and the time lag problem of jacks flying and trying to crash.
RK Note: Because they didn't go back to the island immediately after Locke dying! Clearly lots of time passed in between.

56:00 - Condolences guy saw the bright light and loud noise -> i thought other people not flashing didnt notice that.
RK Note: Maybe Condolences Guy is special somehow too?

57:00 - ben didnt flash, and there he is. john wont be happy!

great ep. enjoyed it alot. get noting!!
