LOST Finale

rk and lb are mia, but mellin cb and i just finished a monster Rock Band session. we are going on tour next week. tix are available on ticketmaster.
RK Note: First of all, I want to express how sad I am last night didn't work out with me coming over to rock band and watch the Lost finale-- it was just not feasible timing-wise on the short notice, it was 8:30 before I got out of the shower and 9:30 before I had blow dryed my hair and gotten dressed, and then it would have been 10:00 before I even got to Caryn's, and I can't lie, the urge to watch the Lost finale was so strong that I had to immediately begin watching at like 9:35, the perfect amount of time to start watching and be able to fast forward all the commercials. I was actually foaming at the mouth to watch. And it would have been cruelty to have asked you all to wait until my belated arrival to begin watching at Caryn's. AND I'd have missed Rock Banding anyway. And also, I have a strict midnight bedtime on weekdays. BUT I wish that circumstances were such so that I could have gone!

in other news, its 935, we are just sitting down to start watching LOST, and mm goes to shut off the lights, but instead hits the master switch, turning off the tv and power boxes. it took a minute to restart, so for all we know we just missed the bomb blowing up. oh mm!
RK Note: OMG how FUNNY, I just wrote (above-- i'm reading the blog simultaneously as I comment) I started watching at 9:35 too! The perfect time! Anyway bummer about the master switch!

RK Note: DAMMIT JN, read my notes! I had some unbelievable nuts last week, most importantly my big nut that Locke WAS in fact dead and the "Locke-esque" figure walking around the island was a mere Christian-shepard-esque being who might be the BLACK SMOKE MONSTER. The finale confirmed Locke is truly dead, and now we know he's come back as some sort of Island-being who is Jacob's nemesis going back centuries and centuries, but I am STILL going to bet this being we saw in the form of a man in black eating fishies with Jacob is the BLACK SMOKE MONSTER, which explains how he swirled around Ben a few episodes ago and appeared as his dead daughter and told him to do what Locke said, because it was a BIG TRICK FROM SMOKEY TO MANIPULATE BEN INTO DOING HIS BIDDING AND KILLING JACOB! I used to think Smokey was like WITH Jacob, but now I think Smokey is Jacob's nemesis who is most recently posing as Locke. The only part of this that doesn't make sense is that Locke was kind of with Ben when he took Ben to see Smokey, although he wasn't DOWN in the tunnels with Ben during his Smokey-confrontation, he was above looking for a rope or something. Maybe the Locke-esque nemesis CONTROLS Smokey. Maybe Smokey is like his pet. Locke-esque nemsis : Smokey :: Walt : Vincent.

2:00 - cb wants to have some fish as a snack now.

3:00 - that guy who ate the fish, he is familar. i recognize him. from another tv show. or from LOST.

RK Note: WHO KNEW JACOB WAS GOING TO BE HOT! I did NOT nut that, I thought he was going to be old and creepy! But no, Jacob, hot as can be, eating fish back in the day, apparently also ageless like Richard.

4:00 - that guy brought the black rock here? huh? black rock was the ship way before rousseau's right? these guys do not like eachother. cb guessed maybe he was jacob. an earlier version of jacob and richard.
CB Note: The Black Rock was a ship from the 1800s that not only shipwrecked on the island, but mysteriously came to be miles inland. Btw, your blog makes it seem like my guess was "an earlier version of Jacob and Richard. But my guess was just that he was Jacob.
RK Note: I think that was the Black Rock coming in, which dates the encounter between Jacob and his Nemesis to the 1800s, but Jacob wanted the ship but Nemesis didn't... So Jacob has been around a long, long time and so has Nameless Nemesis. Also Jacob is so crafty with his loom, and handy with his cool basket fish traps and stove made out of a rock! What a guy. Do we think Richard was on the island at the time of this scene? Could Richard have arrived ON the Black Rock? Doesn't the ship that was coming in VERY CLOSELY resemble that SHIP IN A BOTTLE Richard was building last week?!?!?!?!?!

5:00 - what a nut for cb!!!! great one babe! and they are at that statue!!! remember when i had that awesome nut earlier this season about the importance of the statue?
CB Note: Wow baby! I can't believe you nutted that the statue was important and would come up again! AMAZING!
RK Note: LOL. What lies in the shadow of the statute? Jacob!

6:00 - if that one guy was jacob, who was the other guy? why does he want to kill jacob? and jacob is certainly powerful, he brought the black rock there the other guy said. sorta like how jacob brought flight 815 maybe?
RK Note: Perhaps Jacob DID bring Flight 815 and not the hatch explosion like we had been led to believe! More importantly than why he wants to kill Jacob, why CAN'T he kill Jacob? Why does he need a "loophole"?

7:00 - who are these kids? cb was in asap with baby kate. im going with... baby juliet?
RK Note: Duh she's got the freckles!

8:00 - now cb and mm say its kates boyfriend and he has that plane thats in the security box later. i barely remember that. kate is stealing a lunchbox, is that what she went to jail for?
CB Note: Oh baby. So Kate (that brunette on the show) had a childhood sweetheart, Tom. They buried a time capsule that included Tom's toy airplane in 1989. At some point when she was older (and an outlaw), she returned home to see her mom, who was dying of cancer and saw Tom. They dug up their time capsule and got the toy airplane. They were in a car when the Marshall was chasing Kate and there was a shootout (Tom was killed) and Kate fled, leaving the airplane behind. The marshall took the airplane and put it in a safe deposit box and told Kate about it, trying to get her to come try and steal it so he could arrest her, which she did.
RK Note: LOL to "that brunette on the show." Good one CB. I liked how she wanted to NKOTB lunchbox.

9:00 - WHO is paying for that lunchbox?! nobody was fast enuff but... ummmm.... omg... IT WAS JACOB AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
RK Note: So this is craziness! Visits from Jacob! So Jacob leaves the island! So maybe THAT'S why he was so tough to find sometimes, he can apparently just come and go off the island as he pleases! How does he come and go? Like, does he have a sub or something like that makes sense, or is he like such a special being he can like teleport or fly off the island?

10:00 - btw, any nuts on what show or movie i recognize jacob from?

11:00 - that was pretty freaky, did jacob go visit everyone in the past?
CB Note: That's what I said!
RK Note: And do the visits from Jacob "DO" anything special to them at that time in the past?

13:00 - cb wonders if richard is jacob's son. she notes he didnt age, just like richard. mike thinks itd be weird. weve alway sseen jacob as papa jack, and now we see him as this dude. dunno wut to make of morphing jacob.
CB Note: Well I guessed son at the time since they both DO have the non-aging thing. Obviously there is some connection or Jacob used his voodoo on Richard.
RK Note: We NEVER knew for sure Christian Shepard was Jacob, we just inferred it. NOW it seems clear Christian Shepard was NEVER jacob! Who goes around the Island in the bodies of dead people who come to the island as corpses? NAMELESS NEMESIS! All along perhaps the sightings of Christian Shepard and his instructions to the Losties were coming from NEMESIS and were counter to what Jacob wanted. Since it appears clear that Jacob is capable of walking around and appearing as himself. And also, Jacob lives in the shadow of the statute-- I bet that cabin was never his at all either! Ben admitted he never saw Jacob and was just pretending at the cabin. What if NEMESIS was tricking everyone into thinking he was Jacob to use it to his advantage to kill Jacob! I nut that Jacob does NOT morph and we've just never seen him before last night's episode.

CB Note: Sigh. Frank left Sun and Ben and went back to the plane, where Ilana and the other people were taking over. They asked him the q about the shadow of the statue and then knocked him out.
RK Note: Justin needs to take ginseng or something to help his memory

RK Note: I think they're on Jacob's side! Not sure more than that, where they came from. I think they're the ppl who tried to grab him in the van while he was eating his fish taco and then pushed him out of the van and told him he was on the wrong side.

RK Note: I nutted at this point that it was Jon Locke's body in there!!! Related to my note from last week and earlier in the season that I didn't believe Jon Locke was reincarnated and thought Dead was Dead.

32:00 - if i recall correctly, we never knew how nadia got killed... and jacob was right there!!!! who was really responsible? ben, widmore, or jacob?
CB Note: We only knew that she was killed, and Sayid wanted revenge. While now it seems as if Jacob could be the reason Nadia was killed (I'm torn between him killing Nadia/him saving Sayid, or both), very interesting findings from Lostpedia:

The circumstantial evidence of a traffic photograph pointed to Ishmael Bakir, an employee of Charles Widmore. Bakir was first seen as Ben surveyed Nadia's funeral with a camera. Bakir watched the proceedings with seeming disinterest, drinking coffee as the procession walked by. Upon Ben's discovery by Sayid, Ben shows him a picture of Bakir in a car at a streetlight, speeding away from a place nearby where Nadia was killed. Ben convinced Sayid that Bakir worked for Charles Widmore. Ben later spied on Bakir from a cafe, while Bakir was reading a newspaper. Bakir suddenly left, and Ben followed closely behind, eventually losing Bakir to the crowd of people. RK Note: When DID the statue come down? I always assumed it was like an ancient ruin that crumbled over time... You know, like the statue was 1,000 years old and over the centuries pieces of it broke off and crumbled and whatevs, stuff always happens to old statues, until all that was left was the foot. BUT, we know the statue stood strong and tall in the 1800s-ish when the Black Rock came and we saw Jacob and NN (nameless nemesis) chilling on the beach. SOOOO when and why did the statue come down? Hydrogen bomb is an interesting guess.

71:00 - i dont remember hurley ever being in jail...
CB Note: Double SIGH. Ok so in the beginning of the season, in 2007, Sayid came to break Hurley out of the loony bin. He knew Hurley was under surveillance and was taking him to a safe house. At this safe house there were 3 baddies waiting to attack them, Sayid killed them all (if you recall, one died by dishwasher). Someone took a cell phone pic, GG-style, of Hurley covered in blood, so the police and media thought he did it. Sayid was unconscious so Hurley drove him to his parents house, where his dad then took him to Jack to help him. Meanwhile, Ben (who was already working along with Jack) went to go see Hurley to get him to come with them back to the island. Hurley, upon seeing Ben, thought of Sayids words from earlier, to do the opposite of anything Ben says, so he ran outside of the house, which was surrounded by cops, and turned himself in.
RK Note: YOU DONT REMEMBER HURLEY BEING IN JAIL? Oy.

73:00 - oh hmm. this is not before hurleys first trip to the island. what does this mean? hurley didnt get visited before the first trip like everyone else?
CB Note: Jacob visited Kate/Sawyer/Jack/Sun&Jin before flight 815, but Sayid and Hurley after they get back/before flight 316. I wonder what the significance of that is...
RK Note: VERY interesting, I also wonder significance. Also did not visit Juliet at all that we know of... :(

74:00 - jacob is totally arranging the returns to the island? i thought ben or widmore were trying to do that. grar. or locke, thats why locke got sent back. but jacob just coulda done it himself. oyoyoy.
CB Note: Apparently all 3 parties had a hand in it/wanted it to happen...
RK Note: Looks like EVERYONE was busy arranging it! But I see Jacob as like a higher being, so maybe Jacob was also fully aware of what the others were doing.

RK Note: It was me it was me! I said I don't think they can change the past and whatever they do they're just going to do whatever they already did in the past, or something to that effect. I think the past cannot be changed.

79:00 - note, that if jacks attempted bombing does cause the incident, and the statute to turn into a foot, among other things, one would have to think that jack is gonna die too, unless he somehow gets out of hydrogen bomb blast radius which seems a little ridic. for that matter. everyone should die, which ofc doesnt happen bc ben kills all dharma with the gas.
RK Note: What IS the radius of a hydrogen bomb? I think like when they were testing bombs near Los Alamos in the 1940s or whenever that was, maybe earlier, but I think they used to set off bombs underground and in the desert, so maybe a bomb set off UNDERGROUND won't destroy everything/everyone on top, since it seemed like the hole the bomb got dropped down went pretty deep. But then I guess if that happened it doesnt explain the statute. Maybe the explosion creates like an earthquake
OMG so this is where I had to STOP noting yesterday because I got a call to do work and then had to work until 2 AM and then come back to work this AM at 8:00 and do more work and now only FINALLY at 12 PM on May 15th am I able to squeeze in some resumed Lost blogging!!!!!!!!!! I guess I got cut off in the middle of a thought about the explosion creating an earthquake that brings down most of the statue but in retrospect that makes no sense because the statue is already only a foot in 1977, SO, raisin, makes no sense Rachel, my mind is all warbled

85:00 - cb is sad. mm thinks juliet's death is unneccessary. i, on the other hand, am confident she is not dead, or will be around for season 7 via some time travel or past changing activity.
RK Note: I HOPE shes not dead but I think she IS. The past cannot be changed, according to original Faraday and Rachel's theories of time travel and destiny and the universe. The past is the past. Dead is dead. Everything up until the end is... progress.

RK Note: Locke is not alive! Dead is dead!!! We've seen "dead people" alive on the island many a time before, and now it seems clear these dead people are NOT those people after all. I think Nameless Nemesis can use corpses to appear all over the island, like Christian Shepard. I think Jacob just stays in his own body all the time. The Locke-esque guy walking around seems totally evil. AND I think he manipulated EVERYTHING up to this point, even manipulated making Locke think he had to die to get back and it would be OK. Poor dead Locke, not the true meant to be leader after all. Just a pawn, a pawn in Nameless Nemesis's evil evil Jacob-killing loophole-finding games.

90:00 - loopholes?! esau found a loophole and is using living locke? or is living locke esau? or has locke always been esau? whats about to happen?!
RK Note: Living Locke is Esau duh! And living locke was always locke until he DIED and came back to the Island as a corpse and Nameless Nemesis ("Esau" as you say) is inhabitating the form of his body, but clearly not the actual body, which is still in the box.

RK Note: Seems like he can take on forms of any corpses on the Island-- I bet Christian Shepard has been him all along. I wonder why they hate eachother and why he needed a loophole though. ALSO I wonder if the form we saw him in at the beginning of the ep was his "real" body or if he was inhabiting yet ANOTHER corpse in that scene with the fish on the beach and Jacob in the 1800s. maybe he doesn't HAVE his own human form. maybe it's just SMOKEY and SMOKEY is this mysterious thing but can take on the forms of corpses.

RK Note: I think the loophole was Namless Nemesis can't kill Jacob himself, he neesd to get someone else to do it, and getting Ben to do it was the loophole, which he achieved by being Smokey or controlling Smokey and making Ben see his dead daughter and say he had to do everything John Locke said and then posing as John Locke and saying Kill Jacob.

This ep was def different, there wasn't a super lot of action til the end, just suspense and a lot of WTF WILL THEY DO?? Classic tho - all buildup to the last few secs and big cliffhanger til next season. Not surprised there! J complained about not getting more of an answer, but this is a finale, they never give us answers, it's supposed to make us be like WTF til next season!
